Pro tools 8 white noise problem

Find out what you need and manually set it.. Your problems will likely disappear. I've got the same poblem, I had hang ups with 8. Last night I spent 5 hours mixing a 2 hour show and that sucked. Also, i run the m-powered version of 8 on the same machine and when I updated to le 8. Now it want an Ilok and it's not even a Ilok version. I had no problems with 6. I run a intel quad, with gig dedicated drive and 8 gigs of ram with XP3, theres no way I should be having these probs. I'll have to unistall and go back to 8.

I still have weirdness occasionally. For example, yesterday I had a session, was checking levels and noticed that one channel analog 8 was pure white noise when I armed the record button. ADAT chanels were fine. Analog 7 had "static" - I thought I had two bad mic cables, replaced them and had the same issue - then I removed the mic cables completely and it still existed.

So I shut everything off, powered it back on and when the session came back up everything now worked fine for the rest of the session. Really frustrating but glad it works most of the time with 8. One other weird thing I have with 8. Ghosts in the machine Can everyone who is experiencing the white noise bursts please provide the following info it helps us a LOT if you do it the first time! Your OS version 2.

Your Pro Tools version 3. LE or M-Powered? Which hardware you're using 5. Which troubleshooting you've tried. Anything else you notice that may be relevant to the problem. Are you using the 8. Please be concise - answer those questions in that order and do not include anything that isn't completely relevant to the thread. I'm skipping having Sandra reports posted for now, but I may ask for them at some point in the future.

Tried all buffer sizes. Rebooted all hardware r, command8. Tried streamming mode. Disabled all plugins. Applied cs1. Disabled c8. Noticed I get an error about lack of disk throughput prior to the white noise. This happens on a single track session will supply if it helps. Your Pro Tools version -- 8. Which hardware you're using - r 5. Rebooting always fixes it - or until it happens again at some random moment. I also see that I am getting errors mesages in the windows system event log - windows sidebyside - related to msvcrt8 and dll's that apear to be for the Digi , C24, etc.

Mbox2 5. Your OS version W7 pro 64 2. Your Pro Tools version 8. WD Black drives. Enabled 6. Mostly stable now. Clock seems unstable at times. Unusable software. Really , wow Yes 6 What IS you buffer size? Anything from to does not work 7 What Troubleshooting Have you tried? Besides complete software and OS reinstall I have also isolated all hardware and even replaced the motherboard to a more common one as per i7 thread It was better but still not fixed.

I can not tell when it happens or why? Tracks are out of sync with each other. Some tracks are white noise some are distorted and some are normal Standard 8. How many of you are using estata drives? If so, are they Western Digital? What is the cache? I have gone back to 8. I won't however be going back to 8. Hey Kris It happens on internals as well How ya doing Key??? Making room on your mantle? That deserves a fresh round of 8.

But upon moving to W and using the. After all of the standard tweaks, the issues remained. But I never get a clock warning. I was running MemTest every night and the system appeared stable. I am now using all WD black drives; one for the system, one for session audio, and another for VI samples. I even use a couple for backups. I still get a bit of the same issues on buffer 64 with big VI sessions.

But and above are stable. Even the clock. No noise bursts for over a week now. I wish we knew exactly what systems the Digi coders are using, there may be a hint there. I do believe exactly the right hardware and settings can cure this for the most part, but what a time waster. I'm still on XP and 8. The extra RAM is a plus. Whenever I have major issues with PT it always seems to point back at the clock..

When I upped to 8. So when 8. Now 8. I'm just grateful that 8. I have been able to use 8. I still don't trust it however. I had noticed my Tango slipping in 8. The Tango worked great tonight! Pretty solid in fact. It happened to me too Yesterday I upgraded to 8. Maybe I need to be more specific. They're important. They are the troubleshooting steps that I'm asking everyone if they did. So far the amount of info I'm getting is sorely lacking. I'm guessing that very few of you have done any of the troubleshooting and I really, really need you to start there.

I'll also refer you back to another thread regarding white noise bursts - in no case were they the result of a problem in Pro Tools. I'm not saying that can't be the case here, just that there's very little support so far for the theory of a bug in Pro Tools. The GT thread has tons of good info and troubleshooting steps and have been proven time and time again to resolve a majority of issues reported on the DUC. Taking the time to go through them can save you a lot of time and headaches later - you'll learn a few things in the process and likely end up with a system that functions much more smoothly.

At the very least, if you do nothing else, please do the following - directly after you experience a white noise burst, quit Pro Tools and send us the log files.

Zip them up and email them to : vi [at] digidesign [dot] com with 'white noise burst ' in the subject. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Digitech, I wish I knew your name, Digitech seems so impersonal:- I have done all the general troubleshooting steps.

They had Zero effect on the bursts. I will see if I saved any of my log files, but at this time, I have completely gotten rid of 8. I did make an image of 8. If needed, I can reinstall 8. Let me know. I would love to be able to use 8.

Same here, All of the tweaks and troubleshooting are done. I dont know how much that damn waves plugin setup cost but I came up on them a long time ago. I am not looking to soundproof the room I am looking for something that just reduces the sound of the room itself within the software.

I have a similar problem. I stole a bunch of white wonder bread from the grocery store but what I need is some gluten free organic whole wheat. I have this expensive plugin bundle that I stole too, can anyone tell me how to remove the gluten from the wonderbread with these plugins? DrestaDre said:. Click to expand As breal say's a gate would help. I smell a cracker Blatantly didnt pay for waves..

Boogiegothits New member. Since a lot of people pull out a compressor as a suggestion even though it might increase the issue rather than help it a lot of times, I suggest you use a compressor.

It fixes everything. Removes stains too. Red Scare New member. I have to restart ProToolsSE around every 10 minutes to get through a project. That's kind of absurd. You know how many people are introduced to the ProTools line via this software? You should really make it more impressive. I had every intention of upgrading past this introductory DAW, but I assure you until this is fixed it won't be with ProTools. Not to sound scathing, but come onnnn!!

Fix this! I have just started using Protools SE with Fast track and I'm getting crackle and distortion on recording and playback. Listen to the playback it isn't always in the same place and to the same extent so I don't think its the input. My computer is an Acer aspire, dual core with 2gb ram running windows 7 64x SP1.

I have run compatibility troubleshooter which decided the software would run better with an XP SP2 configuration!!?? But I'm no expert. Any ideas? Hello, I'm just adding my name to the list. Eagerly awaiting a fix. I had the same problem Finally found a video online about the problem and it said to turn off my wireless adapter on my computer Windows 7. I have tried all possible options to get rid of this constant clicking and popping andf stuttoring noise problems and nothing, bloody, works.

So many recording projects to complete and I am starting and restarting this thing every 10 mins. Give your customers a comprehensive answer!!!! One more for the list. It all started out so positive and I was already researching the next step up in Pro Tools too Hi folks, I have just sorted out this issue at least on my system with the kind help and advice of TCM thanks again! The steps I took were: 1.

Removed my notebook battery as per latencymon diagnosis Yes a bit strange I know Best of luck! Red, thanks for actually posting some steps to fix this gigantic problem.

Unfortunately, I am a moron. How do I change where Protools SE saves any of its data? I have an external hard drive, but I can't seem to make it save anywhere other than my desktop. That one might be the thing that fixes it, who knows.

Thanks for any help. I'm with you, this is pretty poor customer support. I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else. Nothing more frustrating than laying down a nice take with no mistakes then playing it back and hearing ear-piercing distortion and noise. Sometimes it plays back completely silent too even though you can see the waveform. I'm thinking about getting a second drive anyway, but you shouldn't have to go through all these modifications and fixes just to get software to work.

Fix the design, not the computers. Cmon Avid, at least try and fix it, or better still, just tell us that you're aware of it and you're working on it!! Strangely, it's only on the mains and not in the headphones. My mother got me this software for christmas this year. She couldn't afford to buy this software for me, but did it anyway to support my passion for music! I have a top quality laptop, chosen by a professional who made sure I met above the requirements for recording software.

Almost two months ago you say you're "working on the issue with more relevant people"?! There are going to be hundreds of posts soon enough on this issue. Wow chill out.. So follow this link and check carefully if you have all the minimum requirements correct. No No No. Doesn't matter what you think is possible. And secondly, why would they support it if PT SE isn't a product that they sell, or have you forgotten you got it with one of their devices included..

And c'mon people- start reading,,, until you understand. If they have pretty much "nothing" to do with a product, then why is their name plastered across the box? I don't care if they don't sell it, they're name is on a product I purchased, which means they had something to do with it. Do they seriously think that it should be OUR job to fix their mistakes? Point blank, these products shouldn't even have a white noise problem for the amount of money we lay out.

I think we'll all "chill out" when the people who produced PTSE take this product off the shelves, and fix the issue before more people get ripped off. I understand how you feel.. I felt the same when i first got SE, I had a few issues and came to these forums to sort them out. Like- Oooh I have no sound, what should i do Um you.. Yes they don't support it, and yes their name is on the box. Avid has designed the best recording DAW that exist today.

Not SE.. It's just silly for a company that is so big, to support this little "demo" version that they give away with their products. For a huge company that would be wasting time and money. No words can even describe my frustration with the white noise problem with this product.

You can't imagine how bad it feels to have a perfect take, play it back, and hear absolutely nothing, or terrible white noise. It is enough to make me burst into tears each time because I am getting no answers or help no matter what I do. I pray to God that someone can help me figure this out because I need to finish at least one song on this freaking software that I've had for months. It's just not right and completely unfair to the customer.

I do not believe so. I work through a Toshiba Laptop with windows 7. It can be very difficult to diagnose a problem when you aren't sitting next to that person.

In your case it could be many things, maybe not even your OS- but maybe the laptop itself hardware. But check here- I will help you figure this out if i may. First off I need the full details of your OS Windows and laptop check your system information that means not just Windows Also what Avid device you bought that included SE.

ProTools Se 8. First disable power management settings such as sleep mode, HD to sleep, ect. Next is to run the compatability issue feature. Pro Tools will open, windows will ask permission to make changes select yes. Now set up your Pro tools preferences. Then check the latency rate right click on avid icon in system tray, open m audio control panel- mine is set to If these settings worked, then select save settings in the compatibility issue window that we ignored earlier.

When you open Pro Tools now, the user account control window will ask- Do you want program to make changes? Its a major pain to set up, but it is definately worth it. The issues are definately windows7 related. I used this program for a year on my old machince running xp without any problems.

I hope this helped. I just came across this page because I was bored at work and wanted to see if Avid ever came up with some real solutions for the throngs of people having difficulty with SE after having added myself to the list of sufferers back in January.

I, too, went through all of the suggested compatibility set-ups I have Windows 7 exhaustively. Months of wasted time.

Then I decided to download Reaper. I can't tell you how much I regret not having tried it sooner and also regret how much time I wasted wanting to put my fist through my laptop because SE wouldn't work. Reaper is great and best of all it's free if you don't mind waiting for the evaluation box at the beginning for a few seconds.

I'm probably going to pay the few bucks for the license just to support the company I didn't like NOT using the software that came with my MobilePre2 because, after all, it's Pro Tools, and that's the industry standard, is it not?

Well, I just didn't care any more I just wanted to be able record a song from beginning to end without all the hassles. By the way, I know this all kinda came out sounding like a promo ad or something, but as I said earlier I was bored at work and felt like writing something.

I am NOT a paid spokesperson I'm just trying to give those of you a little push to end your frustration with SE like I did. Hope this works for you.
