At some point in the insertion you will meet with some resistance. Gently tap the connector into place until it is flush with both side of the frame body using a rubber mallet. Once the sides and the top of the frame are put together you are ready to install it.
Since you have taken perfect measurements, your frame should follow your window opening and line up perfectly! If not, use a level and make any minor adjustment to how the frame sits. When you have everything where it needs to be affix the shutter frame to the window frame. We used a nail gun to install the frame. We used 18 gauge 1. Or, you can use the hardware provided with your shutters.
Next, you get to place the shutter in the frame!!!! Align the hinges and drop the top pin in place. Place the bottom pin in, then shimmy or tap them both into place.
The top and bottom of the frame and door both have a tiny magnet to securely close the shutter door. Close it and hear a soft little magical click. Stand back. Grin like an idiot. Thank you in advance for your response! They might sell thinner pop rivets, and you could try to drill small holes on both ends of the louver. I would try to make one louver to test it out first. This is giving me lots of ideas. Thanks for the article. If you have the proper tools you could definitely make custom shutters for people and sell them. If you make these and use something else instead, I would like to know what worked for you. Hi Glendiaz, Yes the control arm could be made from plastic as well. Since I placed the control arm in the back, I used metal because I had extra leftover from a previous project.

I always wanted to visit New Zealand. One of these days I will. You will need to make sure that this will add up to your overall height of the shutter. In regards to the pop rivets, how were you able to get tension on the slats? Tension is needed so the slats stay open at any position you like.
Awesome presentation by the way. Jim, you need to make sure to use the same size drill bit as the pop rivet. If you have the hole too big, then yes you will not have tension and the blades will be loose. In my country shutters cost about USD per square metre. When you sprayed them, did you apply primer? Hi Deen, I did not apply primer, just two coats of white paint, but primer is not a bad idea. Yes, the blades overlap, you determine the distance between the blades on how wide your blades are.
