Hopefully now - there will be some decent DSL competition in this area. Until now, best speeds around on DSL were about 1. This is an interesting topic for me as I am also thinking of switching to 3web in the next month since my Rogers bundle discount is expiring. Look at the threads about 3web in the Canadian Broadband forum before you make the switch. At the moment, it looks like 3web's network, AND their customer support are desperately overloaded, causing appalling speeds and no way to get through to 3web to complain.

If only there was more cable internet competition here in the GTA Well - I know what you mean about wanting Cable competition, and as posted, at first my 3web experience was transparent - but once 3web transferred my service to their network, speeds decreased drastically - it would have been faster in many cases to be using Rogers lite.
While I was enthusiastic at first, and I figured the unhappy people were "exaggerating", I no longer think that. When I say "stay away" I really mean it, and that's not an exaggeration or a rant. Also - I had nearly a week of cable internet downtime recently, in which I was forced to use the dial up account provided by 3web - at least that is included with the service.

Note in previous thread references posted by Sbrook, that even trying to cancel 3web, and switch back to Rogers is time consuming, and often difficult - even if, and perhaps particularly if you own your own modem. And they're in even less of a hurry to do that, than they are to provide technical support.
I'm hoping that within the next couple weeks, DSL in this area south High Park, Toronto will drastically improve, as a couple weeks ago, I saw an expertech truck in my neighbourhood. Asked the techs what they were doing. They said they were laying Fibre for bell. If not - back to Rogers for now. I had the same experience with 3web. At fist it was good, then I was disconnected for 12 days with no explanation. I am back to Rogers, renting a modem until 3web releases my bought one.
Thanks for the advice guys. After reading your posts and the many more in sbrook's links I decided I would steer clear of 3web for now. I was amazed at how bad their service is, didn't know a company could continue operating in such a way. Anyhow, I am staying with Rogers for now, might try DSL for a month to see how well my connection will be.
I understand that descriptions of 3web's service on these forums are so bad, that any rational person reading the posts would think "no company can be that bad - these posts must be exagerrated".
